Wedgewood China
The Wedgwood Co. was founded by Josiah Wedgwood in the mid 18th century. Originally begun as a British pottery firm, the Wedgwood name has become synonymous with quality products such as china, dinnerware, art objects, collectible items like their collector plate series, and tourist related gift collectibles, just to name a few. In 1987 The Wedgwood Co. merged with Waterford Crystal to become Waterford Wedgwood. Wedgwood is offered in many styles and patterns and is recognizable as authentic Wedgwood by the urn logo at the bottom of each piece. With the only exceptions being some of the earliest of pieces you will see the distinctive urn along with the name Wedgwood. A company started by Enoch Wedgwood features a unicorn as their logo and is manufactured primarily as Avon collectibles but, without any real collector value. Buy them only if you like the look. Some sellers of authentic Wedgwood often misspell the name by placing an "e" after the "g". This is not really a problem as it happens more often than not and providing you know what to look for on each piece. The "urn" and the name "Wedgwood" on each piece will tell you it's an authentic Wedgwood collectible. |
